PEMF Combined with Medication...

Title: Effect of pulsed electromagnetic field on inflammatory pathway markers in RAW 264.7 murine macrophages

Location in PEMF Global Library: PEMF Combined with Medication folder
Published: March 2013

Applied Frequencies: 5 Hz
Available in: Omnium1, iMRS Prime Trial

Abstract: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of a pulsed electromagnetic field on the production of inflammatory markers tumor necrosis factor (TNF), transcription factor nuclear factor kappa B (NFkB), and the expression of the A20 (tumor necrosis factor-alpha-induced protein 3), in an inflamed-cell model.

Conclusion: The study revealed that cells continuously exposed to a pulsed electromagnetic field at 5 Hz demonstrated significant changes in the downregulation of TNF-α and NFkB and also showed a trend in the down regulation of A20, as compared with controls. This treatment could be beneficial in modulating the immune response, in the presence of infection.

Title: Bursts of high-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), together with lorazepam, suppress seizures in a rat kainite status epilepticus model

Location in PEMF Global Library: PEMF Combined with Medication folder
Published: May 2016

Applied Frequencies: 20 Hz
Available in: Omnium1, iMRS Prime Trial

Abstract: The study aimed to test the antiepileptic potential of high-frequency rTMS in SE. As a step toward eventual coupling of rTMS with antiepileptic pharmacotherapy, we also tested whether high-frequency rTMS in combination with a low (ineffective but less likely to cause a side effect) lorazepam dose is as effective as a full lorazepam dose in suppressing seizures in a rat SE model.

Conclusion: We report that high-frequency rTMS has modest antiepileptic potential alone but acts in complement with lorazepam to suppress seizures.

Title: Influence of 1 and 25 Hz, 1.5 mT magnetic fields on antitumor drug potency in a human adenocarcinoma cell line

Location in PEMF Global Library: PEMF Combined with Medication folder
Published: December 2002

Applied Frequencies: 1 Hz, 25 Hz
Available in: Omnium1, iMRS Prime Trial

Abstract: We have evaluated whether a group of PEMF pulses (1.5 mT peak, repeated at 1 and 25 Hz) produces alterations of drug potency on a multidrug resistant human colon adenocarcinoma (HCA) cell line, HCA-2/1(cch). The experiments were performed including (a) exposures to drug and PEMF exposure for 1 h at the same time, (b) drug exposure for 1 h, and then exposure to PEMF for the next 2 days (2 h/day).

Conclusion: The data indicate that PEMF can induce modulation of cytostatic agents in HCA-2/1(cch), with an increased effect when PEMF was applied at the same time as the drug. The type of drug, dose, frequency, and duration of PEMF exposure could influence this modulation.

Title: The Pharmacopsychometric Triangle to Illustrate the Effectiveness of T-PEMF Concomitant with Antidepressants in Treatment Resistant Patients: A Double-Blind, Randomised, Sham-Controlled Trial Revisited with Focus on the Patient-Reported Outcomes

Location in PEMF Global Library: PEMF Combined with Medication folder
Published: April 2011

Applied Frequencies: 55 Hz
Available in: iMRS Prime Trial

Abstract: This study revisited a T-PEMF trial with focus on the pharmacopsychometric triangle in which effect size is used when comparing wanted versus unwanted clinical effects and quality of life as outcomes. In this analysis, we have especially focused on the self-reported HAM-D6.

Conclusion: Active T-PEMF was found superior to sham T-PEMF within the pharmacopsychometric triangle with a clinically significant effect size level above 0.40.
